Artist Biography
Kimberly Louise Aring, now Kimberly Aring Guillermo, was born March 22, 1971 in Cleveland, Ohio. Kimberly is the second of four children born to a United States Air Force officer and his wife. The Air Force provided the Aring family the opportunity to travel and experience life within and outside the United States. This sparked her life-long passion for travel and new experiences.
By 1997, Kimberly Aring earned an Interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Studio Art from the University of South Carolina at Aiken and a Master’s in Arts and Teaching Degree from Lander University. She continued her education, taking graduate classes at Furman University and Savannah College of Art and Design while teaching Art in the Aiken County Public School System. Kimberly currently teaches Art at Aiken High School. After June 2008, she will concentrate on her art full-time.
Throughout Kimberly’s adult life, she has always created art and traveled, often taking some of her students. The countries that she continues to travel to and which inspire her the most include France, The Netherlands, Greece, Italy, Germany, Great Britain and The Caribbean Islands.
In 2006, Kimberly participated in a five week International Rotary Professional Group Study Exchange in Normandy. She was responsible for representing South Carolinian artists and art in Avranches, Cherbourg, Alencon, La Havre, and Yvetot. She was able to meet French artists, visit art schools, galleries, and museums throughout Normandy.
Falling in love in 2007, Kimberly married a Frenchman, Joan Guillermo. Up to now Kimberly has always signed her work as ARING, but as of July 6, 2007, all her work is signed GUILLERMO, signaling a new direction in her life and work.
