Artist Statement
My life cannot exist without art. The process, creating art, can be painful since I anguish; yet I grow with every work. It is vital for me to create - to release my emotions, thoughts, reactions, etc… There is no alternative. My work represents my perception of the world through interactions and experiences. I aspire to excel artistically and to make a difference through profound visual statements within my work.
The media and color I use reflect and expose my conscious and unconscious thoughts, reactions and opinions. The medium I work in depends largely on not only what I am trying to convey, but also on the subject matter. I have always enjoyed working with acrylics more than other media, but I don’t want to limit myself. I have recently rediscovered my love for oil painting and will pursue painting “en Plein Air.”
My work, thus far, has brought me to an intersection that combines real and abstract thoughts and forms, which I am excited about and feel compelled to explore at this stage in my life. I am currently working on a series, the International Series, which will expose life as it is lived daily and perceived globally - Exploring real and perceived differences and commonalities. This series is based on personal experiences in various cultures.
The International Series will be completed by December 2009 or earlier.
